KABUL): Thirteen individuals were convicted on drug charges and awarded different jail sentences by the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) appeal court, an official said on Monday.
The convicts, including a soldier of the 203rd Thunder Military Corps, were handed down jail sentences ranging from seven years to 18 years, a CJTF spokesman, Khalid Ahmad Mowahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The drug traffickers, hailing from Nangarhar, Baghlan, Kandahar, Helmand and Nimroz provinces, were detained with more than 477 kilograms of heroin, 1,308 kg of opium, six kg of morphine and 503 kg of hashish.
Mowahad said the suspects had defence attorneys to plead their cases and were convicted after separate judicial trials based on the evidence brought before the court and the counter-narcotics law, he added.
