ISAF soldiers shot dead by men in ANA uniforms

Aug 07, 2012 - 20:51

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Two individuals wearing Afghan National Army (ANA) uniforms shot dead two International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) soldiers in eastern Afghanistaninfo-icon on Tuesday.

“Afghan and ISAF officials are investigating the incident,” the alliance said, without giving the soldiers’ nationalities. Mostly, US troops are fighting against the Talibaninfo-icon insurgents in the east.

Also on Tuesday, a NATOinfo-icon-led service member died following an improvised explosive device attack in southern Afghanistan. In line with its policy, ISAF deferred casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities.

Meanwhile, the Taliban released an online video according the soldier a hero's welcome after he gunned down an American counterpart. The soldier is shown returning to Ghaziabad in eastern Kunar province.

Scores of men -- some of them veiled -- received the rogue soldier, who identified himself as Ghazi Mahmood. "I killed them because they have occupied our homeland. They are enemies of Islam and kill innocent Afghans."

Pajhwok cannot confirm that video belongs ot this incident or other incedents.
The incident is the latest in a series of green-on-blue attacks, some claimed by the Taliban and others linked to cultural differences between the allied forces.
