KABUL): President Hamid Karzai has ordered the purchase of a private hospital and its transfer to the Kabul Medical University, officials said on Tuesday.

Having sophisticated equipment, the facility was established in 1384 by an Afghan citizen who lives in London. He recently decided to sell the hospital for $4 million.

Karzai has appointed a delegation to ponder on purchasing the hospital, a spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education, Mohammad Azim Noor Bakhsh, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The delegation has representatives from the Ministries of Higher Education, Urban Development, Public Health and the administrative affairs department

Three major private companies would evaluate the hospital before a decision was taken on buying the facility, he said. The companies’ quotations will be checked by the Presidential Palace
