Soldiers among 35 killed in Orakzai operation
ISLAMABAD (PAN): Five Pakistani soldiers and 30 insurgents were killed during a fierce clash during the country’s northwestern restive tribal region near the Afghanistan border on Tuesday, officials said.
The clash erupted in the Dalonai area of Orakzai Agency, where three militant hideouts were raided by security and fighters ambushed a military patrol, a political administration official told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said five soldiers and 20 rebels were killed in the operation. Another 18 other soldiers were injured in the clash.
The troops took control of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Commander Mullah Toofan’s stronghold as a result of the fighting, according to Frontier Corps spokesman Maj. Fazl. He said 25 Taliban and three soldiers were killed.
Political Tehsildar Hameed Khan told a private TV channel that the fall of Dalonai would enable soldiers to close in on Tor Samaat, the home town of Toofan.
