5 killed in Faryab mosque shooting
MAIMANA (PAN): In an apparent incident of personal enmity, gunmen opened fire at people offering prayers in a mosque in northern Faryab province, killing five, officials and residents said on Saturday.
A sixth person was injured after two attackers entered the mosque and opened fire at the worshipers, resident Saifullah said.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News one of the assailants was killed by residents while fleeing. The second gunman managed to flee, he added.
The target was Akhtar Mohammad, a residetn, who had prior enmity with the attackers, he said. Mohammad survived.
However, deputy police chief Col. Abdul Rashid said four people, including a local policeman, were killed in the incident. An investigation has been launched, he added.
