KABUL Cup 9th place play-off semifinal at Allan Border Field in Brisbane in Australia, an official said on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan elected to bat in the 50 overs game and amassed 336-7 after a brilliant knock of 134 runs off 111 balls from opener Javed Ahmadi. He hit 17 boundaries and four sixes and put a solid start to Afghanistan’s innings, the team’s manager Sher Agha Hamkar told Pajhwok Afghan News over the telephone.
Middle-order batsman Najibullah Zardan made 83 off 51 balls with five fours and five sixes while Scotland bowler Patrick Sadler took three wickets for 69 runs.
Scotland too progressed with a rapid run rate but were eventually bowled out for 210 runs with 10.2 overs remaining, according to Hamkar.
Fast bowler Aftab Alam took three wickets while Hashmatullah Shaidi, Yamin Ahmadzai and Sayed Shirzad claimed two wickets each.
Other major run contributors for Afghanistan were Abdur Mangal with 31 runs and Afsar Khan with 42. For Scotland, Mathew Cross made 37 runs, Nicholas Farrar 28, Peter Ross 34, Gavin Main 27 (not out).
