KABUL): The first contingent of 166 newly-recruited Afghan policemen on Wednesday flew to Turkey for an advanced training, an official said on Wednesday.

A total of 500 high school graduates have joined the police force after passing their university entrance test, deputy Ministry of Interior spokesman, Dr. Najibullah Nikzad, told a press conference in Kabul.

The 166 recruits had already completed a three-week training course before their departure for Turkey, where they would receive a six-month training at one of the country’s renowned academies, he said.

Before his departure, a recruit named Sher Agha Ibrahimkhel told Pajhwok at the Kabul International Airport that he was happy to be trained in Turkey.  “After the training, I will serve my country and people,” Ibrahimkhel said.

Another two similar groups will be leaving for Turkey in next two days, according to Nikzad.
