JALALABAD/LASHKARGAH (PAN): Nearly 250 people sustained injuries in various traffic accidents in eastern Nangarhar and southern Helmand provinces during Eid holidays, officials said on Wednesday.

Of the injured, 200 were brought to Nangarhar Civil Hospital over the past three days, Public Health Director Dr. Baaz Mohammad Sherzad said.

The accidents took place on Kabul-Jalalabad, Jalalabad-Torkham, Jalalabad-Laghman and Jalalabad-Asadabad roads, he told Pajhwok Afghan News. Some of the injured were discharged and those with critical injuries remained hospitalised, he said.

Nangarhar traffic officer Allah Nazar confirmed two people were killed in traffic accidents during the period. Police had arrested 55 drivers lacking registration documents during Eid days and introduced them to the prosecutor’s office, he added.

In Helmand, 30 people were injured in traffic accidents during Eid holidays, with most of the incidents involving motorcycles, police spokesman Farid Ahmad Farhang said.

However, traffic officer Abdul Bari claimed traffic accidents had reduced in the province this year, compared to previous years.
