KABUL Cricket Board (ACB)’s selection committee on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for a one-day international match against Australia on August 25 in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates.

Earlier, the committee had named a 25-member squad captained by Nawroz Mangal for the historic event and sent it to the UAE for a two-week long training camp under two foreign coaches – Kabir Khan and David Dyer.

ACB spokesman Nusratullah Wafa told Pajhwok Afghan News the 15-member squad was named after the players returned from their training in Sharjah.

The squad is: Nawroz Mangal (captain), Nabi Esakhel (vice captain), Karim Khan Sadiq, Shehzad Mohammadi, Noor Ali Zadran, Javed Ahmadi, Asghar Stanikzai, Najibullah Zadran, Gulbadin Naeb, Samiullah Shinwari, Daulat Zadran, Shah Pur Zadran, Izatullah Daulatzai, Rahmat Shah and Mohammad Sami Agha.

Fast and budding bowler Hamid Hassan, who sustained injury during a warm-up match against England last year, has not been included in the team.

It was expected that Hassan would join the side for the only ODI against Australia after his treatment in London and the UAE. But Wafa said doctors had not yet allowed Hassan to play.

Former national team member and the Nangarhar Cricket Academy chief Hasti Gul Abid said the team announced by the selection committee was reliable.

He said the cricket board had indeed selected best players keeping in view their overall performance.

After the encounter against the Aussies, the Afghans would visit the West Indies on September 2 for participation in a friendly series, marking the island’s independence.

Later on, the outfit will proceed to Sri Lank to take part in the T-20 Cup, scheduled to begin on September 18.

The one-off clash will be used by the Aussies as a warm-up for the series against Pakistan.
