Girl injured in Kunar cross-border shelling

Sep 01, 2012 - 21:04

ASADABAD (PANinfo-icon): Forty-two missiles were fired from Pakistaninfo-icon into eastern Kunar province over the past 24 hours, injuring a young girl, a senior official said on Saturday.

Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News the missiles landed in Dangam and Sarkano districts, perishing 20 household animals.

He said the issue of cross-border attacks was being discussed through high profile diplomatic sources and being investigated by a trilateral commission.  The governor hoped the attacks would stop soon.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence provided food assistance to 340 families displaced by the cross-border attacks in Dangam district.

A 201st Selab Military Corps official Maj. Gen. Muhibullah said the assistance to the displaced families would continue.

Provincial council head Haji Mia Hassan, praising the defence ministry for the aid, hoped for the government’s efforts to succeed in putting an end to the periodic incursions.

Resident Omer Khan, who thanked the defence ministry for assisting the displaced, urged Afghan National Army (ANA) troops to launch development projects in the district.

He said residents were ready to help security forces keep security and eliminate the rebels.
