LASHKARGAH (PAN): A district council member was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Nawa district of southern Helmand province on Sunday, officials said.
Hamidullah was working at his farm in Sultanzo area when gunmen opened fire at him, the town’s administrative head, Abdul Manan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The assailants made their escape good, but police had launched their investigation to arrest them, Manan said.
Governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal strongly condemned Hamidullah’s assassination, saying the victim was a respected influential figure, who spent his entire life serving people.
Elsewhere, four policemen were killed during a roadside bomb explosion in Kamdish district of eastern Nuristan on Sunday, the governor said.
Tamim Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News the bomb tore through the police vehicle in the Chinar Khor area. The dead included two border and as many national police personnel, he said.
A police spokesman in eastern zone, Idrees Mohmand, said the explosion took place when a police vehicle was passing the area.
He said two quake reaction force members, a border policeman and a civilian were killed and two others policemen were injured in the explosion.
