HERAT CITY (PAN): Economists, traders and local investors attended a conference on formulating a national trade policy in western Herat province on Tuesday, an official said.
The participants, including women, exchanged views on impediments to the promotion of trade and investment in the province.
Deputy Governor Asil Din Jami stressed the need for a national trade policy jointly formulated by representatives from the government and the private sector.
Director of Trade Jabir Ansar said the conference was held in compliance with President Hamid Karzai’s decree. He promised the participants’ recommendations would be sent to the ministry concerned.
Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries deputy head for Herat, Serwais Alaf acknowledged there were many problems that hindered trade and investment.
He believed a balanced trade policy would help overcome the existing problems, but not without a strong commitment from the government.
