JALALABAD (PAN): Two former Taliban officials and three Pakistani citizens have been arrested by police in eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Thursday.

Maulvi Gul Mohammad, an appellant court head during the Taliban regime, and Mullah Noor Mohammad, who served as deputy director of finance, were detained on Wednesday night, said the governor's spokesman.

The three Pakistanis were travelling with the ex-Taliban officials from Wama district to Kantiwa area on the outskirts of Paroon, Nuristan’s capital.

The detainees wanted to attend a meeting of insurgents in the area. Police chief Col. Ghulamullah Nuristani confirmed the arrests, but gave no details.
