KABUL): A joint Afghan-international security force confiscated thousands of kilograms of drugs during an operation in southern Helmand province, the alliance said on Friday.
An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) statement said the joint forces were on a patrol when they searched a number of vehicles, recovering 2,680 kg of dried opium, 150 kg of fresh opium, 850 kg of hashish.
It said some weapons were also seized during the operation, but nobody in connection with the drugs was detained.
Without giving details, the statement said some insurgents were also killed during the operation and the drugs destroyed.
