LASHKARGAH (PAN militants were killed in an airstrike, officials said on Friday.
The family of three was riding a motorcycle in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, and struck by a NATO tank after receiving a go-ahead signal from traffic police, police spokesman Farid Ahmad Farhang said.
The 8-year-old was killed on the spot and his mother was wounded, but the father stayed unhurt, he said. The woman was rushed to hospital.
707th zone police commander Gen. Asmatullah Daulatzai strongly condemned the incident, saying efforts would be made to bring the responsible ones to justice. He assured the incident would be investigated and the family compensated.
Father of the slain child, Mohammad Gul, said they were hit after traffic police allowed them to move on.
Farhang also said four insurgents were killed in a NATO airstrike in the Nad Ali district late on Thursday night. The rebels were planning attacks on security posts when spotted from the air, he said.
However, a Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi rejected the claim as untrue. He said the fighters attacked four security posts in the area, inflicting heavy casualties on police.
