KABUL): Nearly 30 militants were killed in security operations and clashes in different parts of the country over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior claimed on Friday.

Nine rebels were detained as a result of seven operations by Afghan and International Security Assistance Force soldiers in Helmand, Kandahar, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Ghazni, Paktia and Baghlan provinces.

A statement from the ministry said up to 15 jerry cans of explosives, 2,600 kilograms of chemicals and16 weapons were seized by police during the operations.

One insurgent was killed by the explosives he planting on a road in the Jaghatu district of Maidan Wardak.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the fighters attacked a convoy carrying supplies for foreign troops in the Syedabad district of the province, killing three security guards and torching a fuel tanker.

Five security personnel were killed and three others wounded as a result of an attack and roadside bombing in Pul-i-Alam, the capital of Logar, and Greshk district of Helmand, said another rebel spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi.
