KABUL): A notorious insurgent commander was killed along an associate in the Syedabad district of central province of Maidan Wardak on Sunday morning, officials said.

Dr. Muslim, speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, accused the rebel commander of kidnappings, planting roadside bombs and involvement in disruptive activities in the district.

Mullah Izzat, who was director at the Ministry of Mines during Taliban, resident Syed Habib said.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters inflicted casualties on foreign troops during an attack on a joint patrol of Afghan and ISAF soldiers in the Chak district of the province. He acknowledged the loss of two fighters in the ensuing clash.
