7 rebels dead in ISAF airstrikes

KABUL): Seven militants and a civilian were killed in separate security incidents in central and eastern parts of the country, officials said on Wednesday.

The insurgents were killed in two separate airstrikes by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in eastern Nangarhar and central Logar provinces, the alliance said.

Five fighters were killed in an air raid in the Tangi area of Khogyani district on Tuesday night, the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed they had killed three Afghan National Army soldiers and injured five others in a roadside bombing in the district.

A son of Public Works Director Walizai was shot injured on Tuesday evening by unidentified gunmen in the Hadda Farm area on out outskirts of Jalalabad, said the police spokesman, Hazrat Mohammad Mashriqiwal.

He was evacuated to the Nangarhar Civil Hospital before being shifted to Kabul on Wednesday for better treatment, Director of Public Health Dr. Baz Mohammad Sherzad said.

The victim’s father was stabbed on his way to mosque by unidentified assailants three days ago.  Walizai was sent to India on Wednesday morning for treatment care.

In the central province of Maidan Wardak, five people were freed from Taliban captivity with the help of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) officials, said the governor’s spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid.

The men, hailing from Ghazni province, were abducted by the fighters on Tuesday night from the Machine Qala area of Syedabad district.

Also in Syedabad, militants attacked a car on Wednesday morning, killing a civilian and injuring two others, said the district chief, Dr. Fazal Karim Muslim. The victims were taken to hospital by ANA soldiers.
