Ex-rebel commander killed in Faryab
By Qutbuddin Kohi Oct 26, 2012 - 10:58MAIMANA (PAN): A former rebel leader who surrendered to the authorities was killed and an influential figure injured in two separate incidents in northern Faryab province, an official said on Friday.
Syed Amir was shot dead by two motorcyclists in Maimana, the provincial capital on Thursday afternoon, police chief. Brig. Gen. Abdul Khaliq Aqsai said.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News that Amir had joined the peace process along with 11 associates in Pashtunkot district one year ago.
Elsewhere in Faryab, an influential figure named Babor was shot and injured by a motorcyclist in Pashtunkot district on the same day, added the police official.
The man was heading to a security check post in Sabza area of the district, he said, blaming the Taliban for the attack.
Taliban yet to comment on the incident.
