Militant leaders captured in Nangarhar, Logar
KABUL (PAN): Two insurgent leaders were detained in joint operations by Afghan and coalition forces in Kandahar and Logar provinces on Saturday, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said.
The militant arrested in Kandahar was suspected of overseeing the emplacement and distribution of improvised explosives devices throughout the province, a statement from the alliance said
Afghan and coalition security forces seized 750 kilograms (1,650 pounds) of homemade explosives during an operation in Ghazni province.
A Haqqani network leader, who allegedly oversaw operations and multiple attack cells, was arrested along with a number of suspected rebels in Logar province, the ISAF statement added.
In eastern Afghanistan, several fighters were held during a security operation in search of a Taliban leader in Nangarhar province. As the security personnel approached the Taliban leader’s suspected location, two armed insurgents attacked them with small-arms fire.
In return fire, the rebels were wounded and later evacuated to a coalition medical facility. During the operation, the security force seized several assault rifles, shotguns and large quantities of ammunition and gear.
