KABUL cricket team got under way at the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Stadium in eastern Nangarhar province on Friday, an official said.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) official Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News 30 players were being trained at the six-week camp in different departments of game.

ACB chief, Shahzada Masood said that national squad would be participating in a number of international events next year and they had devised a comprehensive strategy for training the players.

He billed 2013 as a very important year for Afghanistan, saying the under-19 outfit was also scheduled to contest different tournaments.

Bashir Stanikzai, the ACB acting chief executive, said that under-19 team members and several other players had also been invited to the coaching camp. Special attention was being paid to the physical fitness of players.

At the end of the training programme, Stanikzai said, the national outfit team would participate in a similar four-week coaching camp in Pakistan or India. In 2013 the Afghans will participate in the Intercontinental Cup and Asian tournaments.
