LASHKARGAH (PAN): Four members of a family were killed during a bomb attack in the Nawzad district of the restive southern province of Helmand on Wednesday, the Ministry of Interior and a local official said.
A statement from the ministry said the individuals, who were on their way to a funeral, were killed in the morning when the vehicle they were travelling in struck the roadside bomb.
Syed Sarwar Agha, the Nawzad district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident happened in Alisher Karez area at 7.00am. The victims were returning to the provincial capital after attending funeral prayers in the district.
The dead — three brothers and a nephew — were killed on the spot and their vehicle destroyed as a result of the explosion, Agha said, blaming the Taliban for the attack.
But a spokesman for the insurgent movement, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, said the attack targeted a tank, killing four NATO-led soldiers.
