ASADABAD (PAN): Five people, including a tribal elder, were killed by unidentified gunmen in eastern Kunar province on Wednesday, an official said.
Malik Arsala Khan, the tribal leader, was an inhabitant of Quro area of Watapur district, Kunar police chief, Brig. Gen. Ewaz Muhammad Nazari, told Pajhwok Afghan News tribal elder.
The elder’s nephew, Azizullah, was kidnapped from his home on Monday. Malik Arsala Khan had gone to Gambiri area along with three of his associates to secure his nephew’s release.
Gen. Nazari said the captors held hostage the elder, his nephew and associates for a night before killing them. He blamed the Taliban for the killings, but gave no further details.
A former Hezb-i-Islami commander, Arsala Khan was also the elders’ council head and a member of the district development council. Haji Jabbar, another tribal elder, said the dead bodies had been handed over to relatives.
