NANGARHAR (PAN): University students again staged a peaceful protest against the death penalty awarded to ex-Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier Abdul Saboor in eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday.

Abdul Saboor was allegedly involved in shooting dead five French soldiers and wounding 18 others in Tagab district of central Kapisa province on January 20. The soldier was sentenced to death by military court in July.

Education Faculty students warned they would close the Nangarhar University if Saboor’s sentence was not overturned and a US soldier who killed 18 civilians in Kandahar not brought to justice.

During the peaceful protest that began at 11:00am and lasted one hour, the students also condemned aggression against Palestinians, chanting “Down with Israel”. They also slammed Afghan courts. PAJHWOK/Babrak Amirzada
