Kandahar-Quetta PIA flights to improve trade

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): The proposed air services between Kandahar and Quetta would enhance economic activities and lessen transportation problems of those living in the southern Kandahar province, an official said on Friday.

Last Wednesday, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced that in the next two weeks they would launch air services between Quetta, capital of Baluchistan, and Kandahar city.

Kandahar air port officer Ahmadullah Faizi said this service would start in mid December and it would ease movement of people between these two important cities.  

PIA is expected to launch two flights per week between Kandahar and Quetta.

Kandahar Chamber and Commerce Director Haji Nasurrallah Zaheer said the air service would certainly benefit the business community and help the public at large in both cities.

He said that Kandahar- Quetta road was unsafe and people faced difficulties while travelling between these places.

A local resident Niamatullah said it would take about seven hours to travel between Kandahar and Quetta, and patients in serious condition have died while travelling to hospitals in Quetta.
