Faryab mosque bombing mastermind killed
The militants were killed in an airstrike carried out by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) on Friday night after a clash with security personnel in Adam Khan area of Almar district, spokesman for 1st brigade of the 209th Shaheen military corps in Faryab, Maj. Mohammad Raza told Pajhwok Afghan News.
One of the slain insurgents was identified while two others were beyond recognition, said a resident of the area Mohammad Amin.
One of those killed was Shokrullah, a commander of the Islamic movement, who coordinated the Eid day’s suicide attack in a mosque -- killing 40 people and injuring 50 others, said an ISAF statement.
ISAF accused Shokrullah of training militants in Faryab and Sar-i-Pul provinces.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi confirmed the death of their members in Almar district, but claimed militants had also inflicted casualties on security personnel during the clash.
