KABUL, while others lawmakers rejected the comments.

Afghan officials should not plead with Pakistan to maintain peace and stability in Afghanistan because this was not the way to promote peace in the county, said senator from Farah, Bilqees Roshan.

Another senator from Kunar, Rafiullah Haidari said the role of Pakistan was vital for the country’s stability. There are many Afghans in Pakistan prisons, so Afghan officials should try to release them.

“Peace can’t come through begging, war is also not the way to bring peace. I ask my political leaders to be smart and should not be cheated by Pakistani officials during the peace process,” he added.

“More development could be seen in the dialogue with Pakistan for peace in Afghanistan and recent releasing of Afghan prisoners was an example of better relations,” said public representative from Zabul, Mohammad Daud Hassan.

There is no other option for Afghanistan, except holding talks with Pakistan on the peace process, another senator from Nuristan, Hafiz Abdul Qayum, said, adding Afghanistan and the international community tried to bring peace to the country but had failed.

Senator from Balkh, Maulvi Mahmud Danishju also insisted on Pakistan’s role and said the neighbouring country should hand over prisoners to Afghan government.

At the end of the session, the first chairman of the senate, Mohammad Alam Izidyar, who led today’s session, said they would ask the High Peace Council’s chairman to answer the senators’ questions regarding the peace process.
