Karzai calls for voluntary return of Afghan refugees

KABUL Minister for States and Frontier Regions Eng. Shaukatullah Khan to allow Afghans to return their homeland voluntarily.

According to a Presidential Palace statement, Khan visited Kabul, along with a delegation, to discuss the issue of Afghan refugees in Pakistan with the president.

“There is remarkable development in Afghanistan, so Afghan refugees should be encouraged to return to their homes voluntarily,” Khan said.

Karzai said Afghan refugees should return on their own will to take part in the reconstruction of the country, according to the statement.

He thanked Pakistan for offering shelter to Afghans for such a long period of time and for their hospitably, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for International Development, Justine Greening, called on Karzai and pledged to assist Afghanistan through the Afghan government.

She reaffirmed that her country would continue its assistances to Afghanistan beyond 2014, after the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.
