3 murderers sentenced to death in Herat

KABUL): The Appellant Court of western Herat province awarded death sentence to three convicts in the province, officials said on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Gul Ahmad Ramish said three men were convicted on charges of a murder cases.

So far the Appellant Court in the province has awarded death sentences to 75 people, 53 of them were punished for criminal cases such as murder, while 22 people were given death penalty for involving in disruptive activities.

The commissioner of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission in the province, Abdul Qadar Rahim, said they supported the death penalty according to the laws of the country and the standards of human rights.

“We support justice and verdicts on justice that bring peace and stability to the society,” he added.

Elsewhere in eastern Laghman, a policeman lost his life and two of his colleagues were wounded in a roadside blast in eastern Laghman province on Tuesday.

In another explosion on the same day a revenue manager and his servant was wounded when their vehicle hit a roadside mine in Morcha Kheloo area of Alshang district, governor’s spokesman Sarhadi Zawok told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A witness Shahid Fazalullah said a child was also wounded seriously and both the injured were in critical condition.

In another incident Taliban militants stormed a police check post in Murghab district of Badghis province and killed a policeman.

Provincial police chief Brig Gen.Shafudin Sharf said a policeman was killed in the attack and police retaliated killing the militants but he did not reveal the number of dead fighters. 

In Mukar district, police and militants clashed, and two fighters were wounded in the incident, he claimed.
