Girls’ school building inaugurated in Kunar

ASADABAD (PAN): A newly constructed building for a girls’ high school was inaugurated on Tuesday in the eastern province of Kunar, officials said.

The building with 14 classrooms, 10 toilets and drinking water system, was built at a cost of $213,000 funded by the United States Provincial Reconstruction director Abdul Qahar Akhunzada said at the inaugural ceremony.

Better learning environment would be provided for 830 students with the construction of the building that took six months to be completed in the Lamatak area of Narang district, he added.

The governor, Syed Fazlullah Wahidi, asked the education ministry and donor agencies to assist in the construction of school buildings in the province.

According to the governor, there are 182,000 students, including 80,000 female students, studying in 471 schools in Kunar.

Hasina, a student of eighth grade, said they had been studying under tents during the hot summer and cold winter, without toilet facilities and surrounding wall.

She asked the government to appoint female teachers in the school because they had been taught by male teachers.
