7 insurgents killed in Khogyani raid
JALALABAD (PAN): Seven insurgent were killed and as many others detained during a joint operation conducted by Afghan and American troops in Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Friday.
The governor's spokesman Ahmad Zeya Abdulzai said insurgents clashed with the forces in Waratorma area of the district on Thursday night.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News that anther one was also injured in the incident. A large cache of weapons and ammunitions were seized from the detainees, who were arrested by the foreign troops, according to Abdulzai.
Khogyani district chief confirmed the operation but did not reveal any details on the casualties.
Anwarul Haq, a resident of Waratorma area, said American troops had carried out the operations in their village last night.
He added five people were killed, three detained and another injured during the air and ground operations of foreign troops. The victims were recently released from Nangarhar prison.
Menwhile ISAF said in a statement, An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Taliban leader who has been involved in multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces and is involved in the transport of insurgent fighters in the region.
As the security force approached the leader's suspected location, several armed insurgents attacked the combined force with small-arms fire and grenades.Statement added.
The security force returned fire, killing three armed insurgents. No civilians were harmed in the exchange. As a result of the operation, the security force seizedmultiple weapons, ammunition and numerous grenades. ISAF climed.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denounced the incident and claimed that five civilians were killed by foreign troops.
