KABUL): President Hamid Karzai on Saturday strongly denounced the assassination of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour in a suicide attack in Peshawar.
Bashir was killed along with seven others, including his personal secretary and a police officer in the suicide bombing that wounded 18 others in Qissa Khwani neighbourhood. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast.
In separate phone calls to Awami National Party chief, Asfandyar Wali Khan, and the victim’s brother Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, the president voiced profound grief over the assassination. He said the Afghans, who have long suffered at the hands of terrorists, could better feel their anguish,
Deeply shocked by the attack, Karzai called the assassination of senior leaders on both sides of the borders as the handiwork of the “enemies of peace and stability” in the region, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
The president extended his condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for the early recovery of the wounded. He stressed the need for a joint campaign against the menace.
