Afghan women to participate in ACC event
By Javed Hamim Kakar Dec 24, 2012 - 18:03KABUL (PAN): Afghanistan’s women cricket team would participate in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Women’s Championship to be hosted next month by Thailand, an official said on Monday.
In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Afghanistan Cricket Board official Diana Barakzai said the nine-day championship would start on Jan. 23.
Teams from Asian countries have been divided in two groups. Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Nepal, Malaysia, Bhutan and the United Arab Emirates are placed in group A.
China, Thailand, Singapore, Kuwait, Iran and Qatar are in group B. Afghanistan would play their first match against Nepal on Jan. 23, Barakzai said. Fourteen of the 20 players who attended a recent training camp have been included in the line-up.
