GHAZI CITY (PAN): Seven officials have been detained on bribery charges in southern Ghazni province, the attorney said on Saturday.

The detainees worked at education and revenue departments and their cases were under investigation, Abdu Rashid Abid told Pajhwok Afghan News.

While hinting at more arrests, the attorney alleged that corrupt officials were being shielded by people in high places. However, he would not go into details.

Abdul Jami Jami, the provincial council chief, said: “Those who are yelling against graft are themselves are themselves involved in it.”

He claimed receiving documents that proved the corruption of some Ghazni-based directors. The documents would be submitted soon to the attorney office for necessary action, he promised.

Mohammad Gul, a resident of Ghazni City, complained of rampant bribery in government departments had been bane for the people. He urged determined efforts at wiping out the scourge.
