KABUL chairman on Sunday asked a lawmaker to tender an apology to 2nd Vice-President Karim Khalili or bring evidence of his involvement in grabbing government land.

“If you have no evidence against Khalili, then you are left with no option but to tender an unconditional apology to him,”  Fazl Hadi Muslimyar told Hidayatullah Rahi, a senator who last week claimed having proof that Khalili, President Karzai and his first deputy Qasim Fahim were involved in land-grab incidents.

Khalili has said he is ready to face the law if proved guilty and, if found innocent, Rahi had to be tried for levelling groundless allegations against him.

Muslimyar said a 10-member Senate delegation yesterday met with Khalili and he was told the house complaints commission had evidence against his brother.

Khalili was told the commission had no proof against him, said the speaker, who asked Rahi to bring evidence against Khalili if he had any, otherwise apologise to him.

However, lawmaker Dr. Zalmai Zabuli, who heads the commission, said no one had the right to represent the entire parliamentary panel. “Mr. chairman, you and Rahi cannot represent the entire commission which has been created to raise its voice against land-grabbers,”  the MP remarked.

He said Khalili had been informed that his brother had usurped land by using his name and power. “Khalili’s brother is an accused and we are looking into the evidence we have against him,” he added.
