KABUL): A girl was gunned down along with a man in Chak district of central Maidan Wardak province on Sunday, residents said.
The girl with a camera, who had come to the district for sightseeing, was shot dead on her way back to Kabul by her kidnappers.
Haji Khurram, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a man accompanying her was also killed and their bodies were found in the Khwaja Omari area.
Hafizullah, another dweller, said the girl hailed from Kunduz province and her captors had demanded tens of thousands of afghanis in ransom.
Another source, who did not want to be named, said the girl had recently returned from the United States. She wanted to see Chak area, according to the source.
He added the Taliban had left a note on the body that the girl was spying for America. The corpses were found in an area where the insurgents often execute captives, the source revealed.
