GHAZNI CITY (PAN): One inmate was killed and nearly a dozen others were wounded during a clash in a prison in southern Ghazni province on Monday, an official said.
A prosecutor, Abdul Rashid Abid, told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash took place among prisoners when police were collecting thermoses from inmates.
A thermos, involving some suspicious white substance, was seized from a visitor who wanted to meet an inmate. Police were still investigating the substance and the suspect was detained, he said.
Four similar thermoses were recovered from other prisoners, who tried to attack the policemen and smashed iron gates.
During a subsequent clash between inmates of political and criminal cells clash, the casualties happened. He added the injured prisoners were evacuated to the provincial hospital.
The hospital head, Dr. Baz Mohammad Himmat, said four prisoners were in critical condition. The authorities may evacuate the seriously injured inmates to the Provincial Reconstruction Team hospital.
