ASADABAD (PAN): Two tonnes of expired medicine and substandard beverages were burnt in the eastern province of Kunar, officials said on Thursday.
The drugs and beverages had been seized from clinics and stores across the province over the past six months by a joint commission, the director of public health said.
Dr. Asadullah Fazli told Pajhwok Afghan News the commission was comprised of public health department, municipality, National Directorate of Security (NDS), police and Attorney General Office representatives.
The drugs were set afire in front of the commission and members of the general public. He warned if poor-quality medicine was recovered from a store, the owner would be dragged to court.
Owner of a private medical store in Asadabad, Malik Shinki, welcomed the action, saying they would they were willing to cooperate with the commission.
Pharmacies selling substandard medicine caused people a variety of health hazards, complained a resident of Asadabad, Fazlullah, who urged the authorities to continue the crackdown.
