Militants surrounded in Nangarhar

JALALABAD/ MAHMOOD RAQI (PAN): A fierce clash is ongoing between security forces and armed rebels in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Saturday.

The firefight that erupted around noon in Janjal Shangai area, the district chief, Malim Mashooq, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Security forces have surrounded 50 fighters in the area, inflicting casualties on some of them.

A border police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said five insurgents had been killed and seven others wounded. “The fight is still going on.”

But a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that four policemen had been killed and two others wounded in the clash.

Separately, security forces conducted a two-day operations in the Nijrab district of Kapisa province, police official Col. Amanullah said. Three militants were killed and four others wounded, he added.

“Two police men also were killed and a third injured,” Amanullah acknowledged.
