Pajhwok Report

KABUL): Barack Obama began his second term as US president on Sunday, when he was sworn in by the chief justice at a brief White House ceremony.

“I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution …so help me God,” Obama said.

A grand public ceremony and presidential address are planned later on Monday. Thousands of Obama supporters are expected attend the event on the National Mall.

Also on Sunday, Vice President Joseph Biden took oath at an early-morning ceremony at his residence at the Naval Observatory.

Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath to Obama, who embraced his spouse and children.
