PUL-I-ALAM (PAN-bound truck loaded with thousands of kilograms of ammonium nitrate, a fertiliser compound the rebels use in making explosives, in central Logar province.

The truck was stopped in the Porak area of Pul-i-Alam in the afternoon and 60 sacks of ammonium nitrate were recovered from it, police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Saboor Nasrati told Pajhwok Afghan News. Each bag contained 50 kilograms. Two suspects, including the driver, were detained.

Nasrati believed the banned fertiliser could have been used in making explosive devices that could threaten many lives. “The seizure is tantamount to rescuing several lives,” the police chief remarked.

Crime branch police chief Col. Qahir Khan Nasiri, said police had received information from intelligence agents about the truck. The detainees are being interrogated, but it remains unknown from where the banned agriculture input had been smuggled into the country.
