Eid-i-Milad celebrated

KABUL): The birth anniversary of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was celebrated in the capital Kabul and other provinces of the country, officials said on Thursday.

The holy prophet of Islam, son of Hazrat Abdullah, was born on April 22, 571 (the 12^th of Rabiul Awwal) in Makah city of Saudi Arabia.

Verses from the holy Quran were recited and alms distributed to the needy at well-attended functions, with religious scholars giving sermons on the mission and life of the last prophet.

Addressing a ceremony at Haji Chaman Academy in the Khairkhana locality of Kabul, Maulvi would follow the teachings of the prophet in all spheres of life.

He urged some Muslims had deviated from the right path to comply with the teachings of Muhammad (PBUH). “For centuries, Muslim nations have been celebrating the birthday of the prophet.

“However, there are some people who consider the celebration of the day polytheism. What do they mean by polytheism? The prophet himself celebrated the day and used to pray on Mondays,” he added.

“As long as we don’t implement the Shariah in letter and spirit, peace and security will continue to elude us. There will be no rule of law or stability in the country,” he warned.

Another preacher, Maulvi Abdul Naeem, told a gathering at Haji Chamal Seminary: “I ask the government to officially celebrate holy days and distribute aid to the needy.”
