Al Qaeda-linked Taliban leader killed: ISAF
Known as Wali, the rebel leader allegedly coordinated activities between the Taliban and al Qaeda in the province and organised attacks against security forces in the district, a statement from ISAF said.
Another Taliban leader -- blamed for conducting direct fire and improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces -- provided weapons and IEDs to other insurgents in the district.
Also in Helmand, an Afghan and coalition security force detained an insurgent leader, who led a rebel group responsible for IED attacks against, in Nawa-i-Barakzai area. He also distributed homemade explosives to fighters.
During a separate operation, an IED expert was held in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province. He allegedly constructed, distributed and emplaced IEDs targeting Afghan and coalition forces.
A Haqqani leader network, who distributed weapons to insurgents in Musakhel district, was detained in the capital of southeastern Khost province. The security force also detained a suspected militant and seized multiple weapons.
