CHARIKAR): Three children were killed and four others suffered critical injuries when an old warhead went off in the Kohi Safi district of central Parwan province, an official said on Saturday.
Aged between 11 and 17 years, the boys were grazing cattle when ‘the Soviet-era’ warhead exploded, the district chief, Saifudin Bidar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The victims, residents of Dunday Paiyeen and Dundar Bali areas, were playing with the device after mistaking it for a toy, he said.
But tribal elder Shah Mahmud accused US troops of throwing the bomb in the area three months back, rejecting Bidar’s claim as false that it was a Soviet-era warhead.
Three of the four injured children were rushed to the civil hospital in Charikar for being critical, he said.
