GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Ghazni City, the capital of southern Ghazni province, would not be poised to host the 2013 year as the Asian Capital of the Islamic Civilisation because some ministries have failed to execute projects  as part of the preparations, the governor said on Sunday.

Akbrazada told a gathering in Ghazni city, some ministries were ignoring schemes they had promised and obliged to implement ahead of the event. “They are not honouring their promises with regard to the province development,” the governor said.

The Ministry of Information and Culture had repaired only 11 historic sites out of the 32 in 2011, while President Karzai had ordered the release of $10 million each year since 2010 for the purpose, Akbarzada claimed.

However, he hoped the repair works would be complete this year. Reconstruction works like asphalting a 60-kilometre road, establishing some recreation parks and bus stands were expected to be done with in March this year.

The acting provincial council head, Abdul Jami Jami, accused some donors of backing out of their promises they held to the provincial government with regard to the province’s development.

“Now it seems impossible to complete every project ahead of 2013,” the public representative feared, alleging the  culture ministry had destroyed the historic value of Ghazni monuments by ‘unprofessionally’ renovating them.

He suggested the Wolesi Jirga should summon ministers failing to execute projects in Ghazni despite being obliged to do so. “The parliament should break its silence over the matter which has a national importance and grill the ministers responsible,” Jami commented.

Journalist and writer, Rahmatullah Marjankhel, said the road asphalting and other constructions in Ghazni city were part of the province’s annual development plans and had nothing to do with the so-called preparations for embracing the city as the Asian Capital of Islamic Civilisation for 2013.
