US citizens warned against travel to Afghanistan
In a statement on its website, the State Department said the latest warning superseded the travel advisory for Afghanistan issued on June 27, 2012. It reminded US citizens of ongoing risks, including kidnapping and insurgent attacks.
“No region in Afghanistan should be considered immune from violence, and the potential exists throughout the country for hostile acts, either targeted or random, against US and other Western nationals at any time,” it added.
According to the statement, Taliban, Al-Qaida and other groups hostile to International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operations remain active, with Afghan authorities having a limited ability to ensure the security of foreign visitors.
