LASHKARGAH (PAN): Seven armed insurgents were killed during an ongoing security operation by Afghan forces in southern Helmand province, officials said on Friday.
An eighth rebel was detained during the police operation backed by Afghan National Army (ANA) troops, aimed at driving the guerrillas from their strongholds in Nadali, Greshk and Marjah towns, the Nadali district police chief, Omar Jan Haqmal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He claimed a home-made bomb producing factory was destroyed by the police who seized some weapons and explosives, including six landmines.
Marjah district chief Mohammad Musa Fahim said a pick-up vehicle belonging to the Taliban was seized during the operation that saw a roadside bomb injured three ANA soldiers and a policeman.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said three policemen were killed in the roadside bombing that took place in the troubled Greshk district.
