LASHKARGAH (PAN): A man, his wife and two daughters were killed when a landmine, the Taliban‘s weapon of choice, tore through a passenger van in southern Helmand province, an official said on Sunday.

The van struck the roadside bomb Saturday evening in a poor area of Khairabad in the Khanshin district, the town’s administrative head said.

Shah Mahmud Mir told Pajhwok Afghan News the driver was also killed, accusing the Taliban of emplacing the bomb that claimed five lives.

“The enemies of peace and stability have planted the bomb that killed civilians,” he said, adding police had launched an investigation, but so far no arrests could be made.

Meanwhile,  police claimed arresting two Taliban insurgents accused of killing  a policeman in Lashkargah, the provincial capital. The pair was apprehended during a police raid in the Musa Qala district on Saturday, the police headquarters said in a statement.
