KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Residents in eight districts remained cut off from Faizabad, the capital of northern Badakhshan province, due to road blockades triggered by continuous heavy snowfall across the province, an official said on Monday.

Food and warm clothing were airlifted to the stranded families last month, but the supplies were not enough to cover the most of those in need, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

“People in these towns need assistance, specially food, to survive,” said Abdul Maroof Rasikh, who claimed families in another nine districts located on the border with Tajikistan had received assistance.

The districts included Ashkashim, Sheghnan, Kohistan, Raghistan and Shekay, according Rasikh, who feared severe food crisis in remote parts of the province that saw dozens of people died and several others went missing in avalanches last year.

Health died on their way to hospital in Faizabad after snow blocked roads in Ragh and Yaran districts.
