FAIZABAD (PAN): An overnight massive landslide destroyed at least 20 homes, leaving as many residents injured in the Yawan district of northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Tuesday.
The disaster roared through the Sholir village around 10:30pm last night, the governor’s spokesman, Abdul Maroof, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority chief for Badakhshan, Sanaullah Amiri, said initial reports suggested that 20 homes were destroyed and as many inhabitants were injured in the erosion caused by heavy downpours.
He said efforts were in place to deliver assistance to the affected families, despite roads leading to the town had been blocked by heavy snowfall.
